Gazprom still mulls restarting gas purchases from Turkmenistan

ASHGABAT, Feb 6 (PRIME) -- Russian gas giant Gazprom is still discussing resumption of natural gas purchases from Turkmenistan with Ashgabat, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said in a news conference following a meeting with his Turkmen counterpart Rashid Meredow.

“These issues lie within the competence of an intergovernmental commission, whose meeting is being prepared. I can say that Turkmenistan’s President Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov paid special attention to contacts with Gazprom when he was assessing our relations today. He was satisfied. The contracts are going on,” he said.

Gazprom initiated an arbitration case against natural gas prices charged by Turkmen state company Turkmengaz in 2015, and terminated a contract with Turkmengaz in 2016 prematurely. In 2018, Gazprom CEO Alexei Miller said that the company planned to restart purchases of gas from Turkmengaz from January 1, 2019.
